Dunmow Cricket Club Second XI v Copford II on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 1 pm
Dunmow Cricket Club Won By 168 Runs
Match report
Match report for Dunmow Cricket Club 2st XI vs Copford 2nd XI
Played at St Edmunds Lane, Dunmow, Saturday 23rd June 2018
Dunmow 324-6
Copford 156 all out
Dunmow win by 168 runs
After back to back wins against Eye & District & Colchester Cavaliers, Dunmow welcomed Copford to St Edmunds Lane. On a glorious day with the sun shining, skipper Ryan Johnson won the toss & put Copford in to field.
The pitch was a belter with a very fast outfield, Dunmow set about posting a big score like the previous two weeks with Johnson & Ieuan Bush opening up. There was no movement with the new ball for the Copford bowlers as the opening pair scored freely from the start. This was evident as Copford had boundary fielders out in the first 10 overs as Johnson & Bush played their shots with no threat of getting out. After 15 overs, Dunmow had racked up 105 runs as Johnson & Bush had both scored half centuries. The breakthrough came as Bush was run out for 59 & he was followed back to the pavilion by his partner Johnson not long after for 64 as he was judged to be LBW. The loss of the openers halted Dunmows progress as Cameron Gibson & Andrew Brown looked to re build but Brown fell soon after for 7, bringing Will Pascoe to the crease. The pair negotiated the middle overs excellently again just like the week before at Colchester with the runs flowing again. Gibson was given out LBW for 32 but Pascoe continued on to score another fine half century. However when Pascoe was bowled for 56 & Aswani departed for 1 with 11 overs to go, it left Jamie McLaughlin & Martin Callingham to negotiate the closing overs. Both players put the ball away to the boundary regularly. McLaughlin bought up his half century in the last over after dispatching the first two balls for 6. The pair finished strong as McLaughlin 56* & Callingham 40* gave the Copford bowlers further punishment in the final 10.
Dunmow posted 324-6 off their 45 overs with Johnson 64, Bush 59, Pascoe 56 & McLaughlin 56* all reaching their half centuries. It was over to the bowlers as they went in search of another 20 point win.
Copford were required to score at 7 an over to achieve the target & it was Callingham who did the early damage removing J Monks & R Soteriou both caught however Aswani pulled off a potential catch of the season to dismiss Soteriou at Gully. With the introduction of Alex Rix & Alfie Pascoe the runs dried up with both bowlers bowling tight lines. As the pressure built with the run rate climbing, both bowlers claimed their rewards as Rix got T Soteriou & E Humm with the latter subject to a misjudged bit of fielding however skipper Johnson still managed to take it one handed above his head. Pascoe got Owen from the other end as he was given LBW, Copford now focused on trying to gain as many batting points as they could. Once again, Kyle Johnson bowled an excellent 6 over spell conceding only 17 runs but vitally claiming 3 wickets as he clean bowled Lawson, I Humm & G Monks. Leaving Copford 8 down, it was the return of McLaughlin who dismissed the final two, Lennox & M Bullen as Copford finished 156 all out to complete Dunmows win. The bowlers finished with K Johnson 3-17, Callingham 2-28, McLaughlin 2-38, Rix 2-34, A Pascoe 1-15, W Pascoe 0-3 & Aswani 0-16.
Another excellent batting performance from the top order which was backed up by the bowlers claiming all 10 wickets as Dunmow moved top of Division 8. Next week Dunmow host Colchester Cavaliers.
