Dunmow Cricket Club Second XI v Eye and District on Sat 09 Jun 2018 at 1 pm
Dunmow Cricket Club Won By 81 Runs
Match report
Match report for Dunmow Cricket Club 2st XI vs Eye & District
Played at St Edmunds Lane, Dunmow, Saturday 9th June 2018
Dunmow 256 all out
Eye & District 175 all out
Dunmow won by 81Runs
Dunmow got their promotion push back on track with a convincing win over Eye & District. For the first time this season Dunmow were put in to bat first with the sun shining at St Edmunds Lane.
That decision looked to be questionable as Johnson and Glen Doepel set to work, scoring freely early on as they moved the score to 64 at drinks. The runs continued to flow as Glen Doepel and Johnson both passed 50. With the score on 95, Glen Doepel departed for 54 following an excellent catch from the point fielder. Bush joined Johnson and as the opposition ringed the bowling changes, both batsman took advantage. Johnson looked well set on 72 when a slow delivery breached his defences. With Bush continuing to accelerate, Brown (8) , Takle (7) and Gibson (7) provided support but all came and went relatively quickly. This brought Aswani (22) to the crease and he pushed the score past 200. Bush departed for a well made 55 as lower order cameos from both Callinghams, Smyth and Pascoe saw Dunmow post 256, their highest score of the season.
In reply, Eye raced to 83-0 off 8 overs as the batsman punished any width on offer from Pascoe (2-0-19-0) and Smyth (6-0-32-1). With their opener retiring out due to other commitments, their captain entered the crease and continued the onslaught as Johnson rang the changes with Callingham and Aswani introduced. This installed a period of relief for the Dunmow fielders. Tight bowling from both ends eventually earned the reward, the Eye skipper finding Callingham at cover off the bowling of Ashwani. 1 brought 2 and some excellent work from Smyth saw the new batsman run out for 1. Ashwani picked up another as Dunmow built the pressure runs began to dry up. Callingham (14-1-68-1) was equally consistent at the other end and got in on the act with a deserved LBW decision. At 140-7, Ashwani (10-2-37-5) picked up another 2 wickets to claim his first ever Dunmow Cricket Club 5-fer.
In the end, Dunmow won comfortably and 20 points moves them back to 2nd place. Next week, they travel to Colchester Cavaliers hoping to record back to back wins for the first time this season.
