Match report
Match report for Dunmow CC 1st XI vs Easton
Played at Dunmow 7th July 2018
Easton 202-6
Dunmow 203-6
Dunmow won by 4 wickets
Dunmow put the disappointment of defeat to Brockley the previous week with a fine team performance against struggling Easton.
In a game reduced to 40 overs per side to accommodate an extended tea break to watch the World Cup quarter final, Easton were inserted on a dry wicket, where full value for shots was guaranteed with a lightning quick outfield. An eventful first over saw Matt Gibson claim the wicket of Glenn Mitchell for 4, caught a second slip by Nick Kesingland. By the end of the 9th over, Gibson had claimed a second and Josh Rix had also got reward for a fine opening spell, leaving Easton 28-3. Two fine partnerships were then built by visiting skipper Tom Bosher(57), firstly with Sayers before he fell lbw to Steve Hamlin and secondly Machan (66), to move the score onto172 -5. With Saragan adding a quick 23 to push the score to 202, a competitive total had been set. Kesingland was probably the pick of the bowlers (11-0-36-2).
The Dunmow got off to a rapid reply with three boundaries in the first over setting the tone, the score racing to 44 at the end of the 8th over. The introduction of spin had a huge impact, Atmere claiming the wicket of Luke Swanston, Joe Gallant and Paul Reid, leaving the reply in jeopardy at 59-3. But the depth of Dunmow’s batting proved its worth as first Rooney (36) and James Reid (32) built a 65 run partnership and after they were both out, Mark Rosewell (44*) and George Gallant (20*) constructed the partnership that got Dunmow over the line and consolidated 4th position in the league table.
The 2nd XI continued their fine form with a comprehensive victory over Copford. Ryan Johnson backed up his 136 from the previous week with 99 out of 236, before marshalling the bowlers to bowl out Copford for 174 and remain top of the Division 8 table.
