Match report A wonderful team effort, with some outstanding individual displays saw the Under 12's chalk up their first ever Peter Coe Cup win on a chilly afternoon, near Thurrock.

A long road trip brought us to Belhus's pleasant ground a couple of miles from Lakeside and with windy conditions, Oscar won the toss and elected to bat first.

The captain himself, leading from the front with some very positive batting and running, and Aryan added 37 for the opening wicket inside 5 overs before an ambitious second run saw the latter run out for a well made 10.

Oscar continued in fine form adding 35 for the 2nd wicket with Will (3) before he was third out for a terrific 44 with the score at 76 in thee twelfth over.

Alex (13), Ollie Hartnell (8) and Jet (0) all fell to Bal (3-16) before Ollie Nash (13) with some splendid hitting, Daniel (8), Ben G (1 no) and Louis Claridge 9 no), in his first competitive match, added valuable end of innings runs to amass Dunmow's highest score at this level: 161 -8.

After a plentiful tea from our fabulous hosts, the lads set about defending their total. Oscar (3 overs, 2 maidens, 0-4) , Daniel (0-9), Ollie H (0-12)and Harry Hall (0-11) all bowled tidily and kept Belhus having to work very hard to score, reaching 35-0 from the first ten overs.

The breakthrough came in the 12th over with the score at 41 when some fine fielding from William and sharp work from keeper Alex ran out the stubborn opener Plunkett for 7.

The introduction of Jet to the attack in the 13th over with his left arm leggies turned the game on its head. The hosts were bamboozled as he took a wonderful 3 wickets with balls 3, 5 and 6 , a caught and bowled, a clean bowled and a brilliant stumping from Alex to leave him on a hat-trick with the opening ball of his second over.

Although close with great support from his team-mates , the hat trick was averted but with the ball after next he captured another caught and bowled to leave Belhus at 56-5.

With his team and himself buzzing with excitement, Jet saved his best for his third over with a hat trick of caught and bowleds, this time a magnificent low return catch to make it 70-6 and his bowling figures at a super 5-13.

There were more fantastic achievements to follow as a rampant Dunmow finished their opponents resistance with only seven more runs added.

Aryan bagged two wickets in his first over (2-5) both smart stumpings from an on fire Alex who then executed another from Ollie Nash's bowling to leave him with an incredible four stumpings in the innings, a terrific wicket-keeping performance.

The top scoring Anderson (17) was the last man out, Ollie H taking a good catch from Ollie Nash who had remarkable figures of 2 wickets for no runs conceded in his opening over.

The boys were understandably elated and their coach and parents very proud of a wonderful team effort under splendid leadership from Oscar that will hopefully give them confidence in this competition.

A memorable day.
