Wanstead & Snaresbrook v Dunmow Cricket Club Under 12's on Mon 02 May 2016 at 230pm
Dunmow Cricket Club Lost by 88 runs.

Match report It was always going to be a tough baptism for our Under 12's in the Peter Coe Cup after the fixtures threw up a first game away to Wanstead & Snaresbrook, one of the bigger and higher standard clubs in the competition with several county and district representative players and a large squad to choose from.

Our young and inexperienced team really did give a good account of themselves, certainly in the field where at one stage they really did have the home side worried when reduced to 43-5 after a terrific start from Dunmow.

With conditions overcast and rain threatening, Oscar won the toss and inserted the opposition and he and Daniel Watson (1-27) set a great tone bowling both openers with only 10 on the board.

The Ollie's Hartnell (2-12 in 4 overs) and Jones (0-6 in 3 overs) continued the fine opening with Tom Scanlon taking a splendid catch, and when Adam Sambles good work in the field ran out Mir, Wanstead were reeling at 43-5 in the 12th over.

If Dunmow had taken a fairly straightforward catch or been a little sharper in the field when Sam Hurwitz was just getting going, things could have been different but the batsman took full advantage and ably supported by Hasan Ali (8) added a game changing 63 for the 6th wicket before the latter was bowled by the returning Oscar Letch.

Hurwitz played really well for his 42 guding his team to 122-8 from their 25 overs before being run out off the final ball of the innings with a terrific direct hit from Jet.

Dunmow had done well in their debut 25 overs in the field, led well by Oscar whose bowling was superb, ending with 3 for 18 from 5 overs.

The conditions were deteriorating rapidly after a quick turnaround and unfortunately for our inexperienced batting line up faced with some excellent bowling anyway it proved a little too much to make a decent fight of it.

With the wicket playing increasingly low and the outfield becoming increasingly wet, the pressure exerted from the home sides bowlers saw the more experienced of Dunmow's batters, Oscar (0), Olly H (0) and Alex (2) back in the hutch with only 8 on the board all victims of the superb Patel (3-3 from three overs).

Jet (3) and William (8) hung around for a bit, ably supported by some stubborn resistance from opener Adam Sambles (1) who dug in for over ten overs. But from 33 for 5 after 12 overs, Dunmow were cleaned up for the addition of only one more run with Haris Usman claiming a double wicket maiden in his first and only over.

Our thanks to Bomber Peirson and Ray Walls for umpiring and scoring duties and to all at Wanstead & Snaresbrook for making us welcome and feeding us well at their lovely ground.
