Dunmow Cricket Club Won By 29 Runs

Match report Saturday 27th August 2016 proved to be a triumphant date for Dunmow 2nds, who secured promotion out of Division Nine South with a tightly fought victory over fellow title contenders Colchester Cavaliers.

Needing just 9 points to guarantee they would top the table, Dunmow made a confident start, despite being put into bat in blistery conditions. Top run scorer Sam Bush made light work of the opening attack, racing onto 63 before gloving one down leg side. By this point Cavaliers had introduced Ghani and Hussain to the attack, and with the two spinners finding turn and bounce aplenty, Dunmow's middle order struggled to maintain the early momentum. Luckily, Ben Sedman (55) hadn't got the memo about playing carefully against the spin, with his usual belligerent style paying dividends. The wickets continued to tumble, however, and Dunmow were eventually stranded on 184 all out.

In spite of earning 49 overs to chase that total, Cavaliers' batsmen weren't in the mood for hanging about and a fast paced start to the second innings saw Dunmow claim 6 wickets for 90 runs, Alfie Pascoe and Alex Rix the main men responsible. However, the partnership of Hussain and Young soon bedded down and saw the home side past 100, 120 and 140, as victory looked to be slipping out of Dunmow's reach. The game turned on its head once again, however, with the return to the attack of opening bowlers Pascoe and Jamie Mclaughlin, and once Young was trumped the house of cards came crashing down: Cavaliers reduced to 156 all out, 28 short of their target.
