Bury St Edmunds II v Dunmow Cricket Club First XI on Sat 26 May 2018 at 1 pm
Dunmow Cricket Club Lost By 4 Wickets
Match report
Match report for Dunmow Cricket Club 1st XI vs Bury St Edmunds 2nd Xi
Played at The Victory Ground, Bury St Edmunds, Saturday 26th May 2018
Dunmow 180 all out
Bury St Edmunds 181-6
Bury St Edmunds win by 4 wickets
History repeated itself for Dunmow as another batting collapse limited their chances of victory at the glorious Victory Ground.
On a day when winning the toss felt like an important first step, Dunmow lost it and were inserted on a green wicket in muggy, warm conditions. Skipper Luke Swanston was dismissed in the first over which seemed to confirm the benefit of bowling first. What followed for the next 30 overs or so did not cause undue alarm however as Joe Gallant (53), James Reid (47), George Gallant (25) and Martin Callingham (22) all made decent contributions, although, crucially none went on to make a really big, telling contribution. This was given stark focus as three batsmen were run out to see the last three wickets add 0 runs and Dunmow post a below par 180.
They did not help themselves in the field in trying to defend their total either – in all a total of 8 catches were put down, some harder than others, although they were always in the game until the last few overs. This was in part to some miserly bowling from Matt Gibson (15-5-20-3), claiming Aldous, Whittaker & Dinesh and restricted scoring to such an extent that with the fall of the 5th wicket at 112 with 11 overs to go another 69 were still needed. However, despite Plumb falling for a well made 44, Kizis (30*) and Cook (21*) saw the hosts over the line with 4 overs to spare. Other wicket takers were Baz Sewell (14-0-78-2) and George Gallant (7.5-0-31-1).
Next week Dunmow host Tuddenham knowing that they need to go on a decent run to re-establish their chances of returning to Division 2 next season.
Dunmow 2nd XI completed a comprehensive win against Sudbury 3rd XI and moved to top spot in Division 8.
