Match report
Match report for Dunmow Cricket Club 1st XI vs Abberton1st XI
Played at St Edmunds Lane, Dunmow, Saturday 19th May 2018
Abberton 258-6
Dunmow 174 all out
Abberton won by 82 runs
Dunmow failed to back up the victory of the previous week with a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the free scoring Abberton CC.
Winning the toss and batting was the choice of skipper home Luke Swanston as Dunmow had chased for both their victories to date. However, the Abberton team, and batsmen Trussler, Schofield and Savilll had other ideas as they made the Dunmow bowlers toil in the heat. Trussler (94) and Savill (60*) took a particular liking to the bowling, despatching the ball to all parts and beyond as they made excellent use of the fact that Dunmow were unable to secure any real momentum in the early part of the innings. Josh Rix (8-1-35-1), George Gallant (11-1-62-2) Baz Sewell (10-1-60-1) and Joe Gallant (4-0-17-1) claimed the wickets and the only consolation at tea was the wicket appeared to be an absolute belter which, coupled with a lightning fast outfield made scoring quick.
And so it proved for the first 15 overs or so as Joe Gallant and Swanston built an opening partnership of 82 before Gallant (31) was stumped to become the first of Savill’s five victims. Only two more partnerships made more than 20 as wickets started to fall regularly to the spin of Savill and Alex Terry, including, incredibly 4 wickets in 4 balls as Savill claimed a hat-trick of George Gallant, Mclauglin and Pascoe, backed up by Terry’s dismissal of Rix all with the score at 156. Gibson and Sewell attempted to secure another batting point but fell one run short as Sewell became Terry’s (12-2-53-5) fifth victim to back up the performance of Savill at the other end (15-0-67-5) leaving Dunmow in mid table after 5 fixtures.
Next week Dunmow travel to Bury St Edmunds. Dunmow 2nd XI fell 13 runs short against Bardwell in Division 8.
