Dunmow Cricket Club First XI v Easton on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1pm
Dunmow Cricket Club Lost By 85 Runs
Match report
Match report fior Dunmow 1st XI vs Easton 1st XI
Two Counties League Division 2
Played at St Edmunds Lane, 14th May 2016.
Easton 224-8
Dunmow 139 all out
Easton win 85 runs
Dunmow were left rueing crucial missed chances as they fell to their third successive defeat against Easton. Skipper Paul Reid won the toss for the fourth successive week and chose to bowl first on a fresh afternoon. Once again, this looked to be a good decision as opening bowlers Matt Gibson and Josh Rix claimed regular victims to leave Easton 42-5 after 13 overs. Things did not improve for the visitors with the introduction of Steve Hamlin as he took a wicket with his first ball on the way to figures of 9-1-43-3. However, despite the fact that only one batsman in the top 9 made double figures, the exception, Joleon Kimmerling was making Dunmow pay for putting him down on about 35. Furthermore when Matt Gibson was bowled out (15-4-46-3) the change bowling was unable to maintain the pressure with 8 overs of spin going for 70. In addition, Kimmerling finally found himself a willing partner in Jez Brotherton and together they took the score from 92-8 in the 23rd over to 224-8 at the close, with Kimmerling, dropped again on 96 making 127 not out and Brotherton 64 not out.
Dunmow’s reply was hampered before it have begun, by injuries in the field to batsmen Nick Coupe and Nav Ali meaning they could only bat at 9 and 11 respectively. Unlike Easton’s innings, all the Dunmow top 6 made double figures, but not one of them was able to go on and make the big score that would have given them the chance of winning. Wickets fell regularly to Tom Bosher (1-33), Steve Hallows (3-56) Atul Sarangan (2-16) and Chris Attmere (4-33) and although Ali played through the pain to top score with 27, Eastons wrapped up a convincing victory in the 38th over.
Dunmow 2nd XI recorded a convincing 134 run victory against Boxford to back up their season opener against Kelvedon & Feering 3rd XI of the week before.
Next week, Dunmow 1st XI host Exning, while the 2nd XI travel to West Bergholt.
