The Jack Petchey Award

Jack Petchey was born in 1925 in London's East End. After leaving school , he worked in an office for the equivalenet of 62.5p per week! After the war, he set up his own car hire business which later developed into sales. By the late 1960's he had branched out into property development and became one of the country's leading entrepeneurs. He is still actively involved in business and charitable enterprises.

In 2004, Jack was awarded the OBE in recognition of his contribution to young people.

The Jack Petchey Foundation works to promote aspiration and achievement among young people by actively funding and supporting schools and youth organisations. Through the awards scheme schools and youth organisations are encouraged to recognise and reward the special endeavour and outstanding achievement of young people in the community.

One person is selected each month (by a club selection committee) and will receive a framed certificate and a grant for £200 which can be used to support a school or youth organisation project; for example, purchase items which in turn will facilitate and sustain the success of the school or organisation.

The club have a wishlist of items they would like to invest in, in addition to the items already purchased for the benefit of the club.

The first winner (in May 2006) for his outstanding contribution to the club over a number of years was Paul Reid Jnr. Paul is an integral part of the Dunmow 1st Xi, but he is also club secretary, Sunday Xi skipper and an ECB trained coach, training the growing colts section on both a Tuesday and Thursday evening. The award was recognition of his outstanding achievements and endeavour for Dunmow Cricket Club. Well done Paul!!!
